About the Role:
Global Toronto is currently looking for a full-time television News Anchor and Digital Broadcast Journalist to join their team. Reporting to the News Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for anchoring newscasts in multiple Canadian markets supported by Global’s Toronto based production facility. This role requires working dedicated weekends and the possibility of other shifts including days, evenings and holidays as needed. This role reaffirms our commitment to a multi-platform, digital-first approach, to build the future of news, which generates news content 24/7. This is a Group 4 position under the current collective agreement.

• Anchor local and national newscasts for various markets and platforms.
• Work with producers to lead editorial discussions and help determine the editorial direction and content of newscasts.
• Initiating and developing story ideas through contact development, research, and interviews.
• Chasing, writing, voicing and producing news stories for broadcast and globalnews.ca while meeting multiple daily deadlines.
• Reporting live on-location and in-studio.
• Creatively using production graphics and other visual elements to enhance storytelling.
• Being a strong advocate, model and mentor for digital journalism and a digital-first workflow.
• Maintaining Global News editorial standard.
• Developing and maintaining a network of contacts.
• Actively participate in daily assignment meetings by bringing enterprise pitches and advocating for strong local content.
• Participating in Global Toronto promotional and community initiatives.
• Performing other duties as required.
Skills and experience you will bring:
• Post-secondary education in journalism, broadcasting, or a related field.
• An experienced journalist capable of reporting and anchoring daily news.
• Minimum five years of reporting/anchoring experience is required.
• Exceptional news writing, news delivery, and storytelling skills.
• Proven on-air presentation, including live remotes and unscripted material.
• Strong news judgment and editorial skills.
• Proficient in creating, curating and developing content using digital operating systems for multiple platforms.
• The ability to respond quickly and knowledgeably to breaking news.
• Strong understanding of local news in various markets as well as national news.
• Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows as well as show a willingness to learn new online skills in a multi-faceted digital news operation.
• Possess excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to make independent decisions in pressure situations.
• Ability to work well independently as well as effectively collaborate in a team setting.
• Work well under pressure while meeting strict deadlines, possess a desire to be the best, and have a positive can-do attitude.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adjust to changing priorities and objectives.
• Valid G driver's license with clear driving record.
